What to expect

February 2nd, 2012

Here a few shots of SPRING 2012, you can see the whole collection on our Facebook page. Some of my favorites are:

Anchor sweater in CEMENT.

Regent shirt in Red.

Collins shirt in Blue.

Linden tee in Athletic.

Enjoy your Day “EYD” tee in Athletic.

Tablet pants in Blue.

Nathan shorts in Khaki.

Lastly, if this is the first time you’ve seen our pouches. The pouches are pretty much our “tags.” We do it for two reasons. The first reason is paper tags are useless, you end up throwing it away. Second, we do it for you. Make it useful, use it for sunglasses, loose change, etc. Good day.

Nick Weber

January 23rd, 2012

Last Thursday, we had the chance to go out to Downtown Disney in Anaheim. We were there to shoot Nick Weber, who will be the next edition to the Craftsman’s Guild. Nick is an executive chef at Catal Restuarant and Uva Bar. His creativity and passion for food has caught our attention. Creativity such as creating  a PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) sorbet  for Fat Mike of NOFX. More details coming.  When we first arrived, Nick was working on some fresh Ahi tuna from the Newport Farmers Market, so good. The Craftsman Guild represents individuals who really have a passion for their craft. They are respected in their community.  The guild is essentially the “behind the scenes people” that we respect and these are the individuals that inspire SLVDR. If you dont know too much about it, click here. Any how, here are some of the shots from that day. The full release along with interview questions are coming soon!

Good day

A visitor

January 11th, 2012

On Monday, Rob’s friend Cody came out to the office. He works with Rob on a few projects so he’ll be in and out of the office for a few days during the week. He resides in Chicago, but is visiting California for the month. Its great to have new faces in the office, tired of looking at Rob. We went out to lunch at the Gypsy Den in Santa Ana, which is right around the corner from the office. Super convenient. The decor is definately cool, make sure you look up at the lamps.

Cody and Rob talking about current projects (top secret)

My waldorf chicken, try it.

Like I said, look up and check out their cool chandlier lamps?

See you there. Good day.

Recap: Agenda

January 11th, 2012

It was my first time out to Agenda. Rob has done it many times though. What goes on at a trade show? Brands, Retailers (buyers), Press, the crew of brands come out. People who are really working hard? The sales team and buyers. They are constantly at work. Everyone else seems to be catching up on old times and chatting. Press and bloggers alike are patrolling the isles and doing interviews and checking out the brand’s new collection. SLVDR was located at I12. Our neighbors included Makia, Le Specs, Pony, and freshjive.

Chris of 722 Figueroa sellin’

Rob chattin’ along with SLVDR on the racks.

Penny skateboards are pretty cool, I like the purple and gold.

GPPR had some cool stuff too.

Herschel Supply are doing big things, they are releasing a grip of bags in every color you can imagine.

Next show is Project in Vegas, we’ll see you out there. If not, i’ll be posting on the event.
Good day.

Apparel News – SLVDR womens

January 7th, 2012

In these past few days, Rob and myself were out at the Agenda Trade Show in Long Beach. The weather in Southern California has been really good. Driving down PCH made Rob really want to surf, the waves were reported to be double head. It was a nice drive in general. Good weather along with an ocean view, you can’t beat it. I will be posting more pictures very soon, so stay posted!  Any how, SLVDR has been working on a women’s line and its first collection will be released Fall 2012. Apparel News has a good write up on the colleciton and what to expect.

“SLVDR’s philosophy puts a twist on classic men’s clothes, such as a unique pocket treatment and out-of-the-ordinary fabric applications. The new women’s range almost literally translates SLVDR men’s styles and scales them for the women’s body with a few nips and tucks.” Read more Here.

We just shot some samples for SLVDR Fall 2012 collection, ill post some sneak peaks later. There is more than just a mens collection now (hint). But for now, take a look at what to expect in the near future.

AmRag Recap

November 30th, 2011

American Rag Cie has to be one of my favorite stores. They have everything I need, there are lots of cool brands plus an amazing denim bar and of course they carry SLVDR at their Newport Beach and L.A. store. Last tuesday, AmRag along with 722 Figueroa hosted a holiday celebration. This gave a chance for everyone to come out on a Tuesday night and wind down with a Singha or two and check out SLVDR, Copy, and Makia. Once again the 722 guys were out. Cody was taking care of the music, looks like hes pumping tunes from an iPad (Apple is taking over).

Rob and our new friend Binh talking about the brand.

Chris, Will, and Richie (722 guys) hanging out.

Buy the Cabin and Tapas, it looks better on you than the rack.

Lets check out the store, they have some the best Levi’s here, both the handcrafted denim and vintage collection.

Some of the best outerwear are on this rack, come see for yourself.

The bear and the denim bar. Besides my favorite denim store, self edge. AmRag’s denim bar has a HUGE selection, you’ll surely find a pair that fits you here. Their whole back wall and some are filled with some of your favorite brands.

Lastly, they have some of the most exclusive Ralph Lauren collection, RRL. RRL is the sub brand of Polo Ralph Lauren. RRL focuses on vintage inspired clothing as well as being american made. My favorite brand next to SLVDR of course.

Recap: 722 Fall Launch

November 21st, 2011

Last Thursday, we headed out to the 722 Figueroa spot again to support the Fall launch. SLVDR, Copy, Tsubo, Keep, CXXVI, Makia, Pony, and new additions Tovar, Le Specs, and NVRBRKN were in attendance showcasing their fall products.  I did not get to take many pictures, but here are a few. Rob showing the collection to Davey, explaining the stitching process for the crew. It’s coming out in Spring, you’re gonna have to wait and til then to see what we’re talking about!

Here are the others checking out the goods stuff.

Here are some random pictures of the night!

Maximo Riera solves the everyday problems for guys like myself. I want a cool chair to sit in, is that a lot to ask? And by the way, the chair I want has to look like a rhino. Impossible to fathom, really who wants a chair that looks like a rhino. Well if your like me and want something out of the norm, Maximo Riera is your man.  He paints, sculpts, and does photography, but also other things like create unique furniture. If you see this, buy it for me and I’ll be your friend.

selvedge selvedge selvedge

November 17th, 2011

Now why would anyone pay over $200 for denim, I’m glad you’ve asked! Im gonna let one of my favorite bloggers explain to you what it is here. Ryan at simplethreads is guru to me, he knows what he’s talking about and I’ve been following his blog for awhile now, so check him out.

What selvedge can look like after some wear and tear. The reason why selvedge is so unique is that its really one of a kind. You can’t duplicate it. This along with one of our shirts, you can’t really do any better.

Coutesy of simplethreads and rawrdenim.

Guys are like spiders

November 17th, 2011

Why you might ask?

Male nursery web spiders sometimes “pay” for mating using worthless gifts, with a new study finding the gals are not impressed with the empty offerings. These gifts serve as decoys: Worthless bits of flower, cotton or ant husks wrapped in silk that serve only to distract the female while the males have their way. Another trick? If not satiated, males play dead until the female thinks she has gotten away, and then he wakes up and grabs her for another go.

Subtleties

November 14th, 2011

Little details, the right fabric, and the fit along with the design are critical parts in creating a garment.  What separtes clothes from just what you wear to clothes that your proud to wear is not the price, but the subtle details that make the garment unique.  An overlooked detail in all clothes would be the label (tag). Who looks at it? Who cares for it? Not many, but when you come across SLVDR tag, its pretty cool.  The small number of people who notice and appreciate it, make it all worth while. It took 4 months to develope. The suppliers have never done anything like this before, and were confused on why a brand would want an inverted label. It was simple, it was gonna look really cool. Through a few samples, the right label came to life. You be the judge. So the next time you buy a brand, check out their label. So the next time you buy SLVDR, check out our label.

A day in L.A.

November 10th, 2011

The other day, we got to get out of the office and headed to L.A. for some meetings. The first stop was with The Social Trust. They did the most recent video for our Spring 2012/Craftman Guild. Rob and I sat down with Paul to talk about future plans for the brand. We want to push a few more videos out for the next year, so expect to see some awesome stuff from Paul and his team.

After talking with Paul, we headed over to our showroom. 722 Figueroa has a legit space. It’s a converted movie theater located in L.A.’s Chinatown.

This is Will and his assistant, he runs Ford&Ching along with the showroom.

This is the P.R./Marketing team, putting in work! Looks like they’re getting ready for some product shots.

Will, Chris, Rob, and I headed out to lunch at this Ramen place not to far from the showroom. We got to talk about a few retailers and key accounts. More importantly, I got a grasp on what I should be doing at slvdr. Expect regular updates on our website, facebook, and twitter! We will be running a contest for facebook/twitter, so stayed tuned to find out how you can win some gear!

This is Chris, he does slvdr sales and he oversees the sales team at 722 Figueroa. Rob and Chris discussing the specifics over what we talked about during lunch. Looks like thats some slvdr stuff behind Chris, Spring 2012 to be exact. Looks good no?

Spring 2012 Preview

November 9th, 2011

Our friends over at The Social Trust made a video for our Spring 2012 line.  The video is also in conjunction with the Craftsman Guild, if you have not checked it out, make sure you do so. These are the people that perfect their craft whether its from being a chef or a photographer, they inspire slvdr. There are some goodies featured in this video that you should definitely keep your eye on.

Weekender Santa Barbara- CRSVR

June 1st, 2011

Check out CRSVR for your fix of street wear.  Great shop and nice people.

Weekender Santa Barbara- Fish House

It is impossible to escape fish tacos when near the coast in California and if you are eating at the Fish House you would be crazy to pass them up.

Weekender Santa Barbara- Free Thinking

June 1st, 2011

Santa Barbara is a college town and it is just far enough north of LA to not be effected by the “anti-hippie force field”. Peace and love.

Weekender Santa Barbara- Jitter Coffee

June 1st, 2011

Great coffee but maybe even better ambiance. The art on the walls is a step above the typical hobby artist’s work and the baked treats are on point.

Weekender Santa Barbara- Vintage Shopping

June 1st, 2011

There are a grip of vintage shops along State Street filled with all kinds of goodies.  Grab a coffee and get to digging because you are sure to find some gems.

Weekender Santa Barbara- Habit

June 1st, 2011

Weekender Santa Barbara- Arigato Sushi

June 1st, 2011

Inside/outside dining, near the ocean, on State Street with yummy raw fish.  What more could you ask for?

Weekender Santa Barbara- Metropolis

June 1st, 2011

If you ever dream of living around the corner from an amazing neighborhood deli, move next to Metropolis.  The food is great and the service is fantastic.  Ask the guy at the cash register about wine and get ready to be schooled.

Weekender Santa Barbara

June 1st, 2011

How can you not think of the beach for a relaxing long weekend?  On the contrary, few things in life are more un-relaxing as traffic. So for your weekender to Santa Barbara take the train.  The Surfliner can get you can get you into Santa Barbara in time for lunch from just about anywhere in Southern California.  The great thing is, once you get here you have little need for motorized transport as most everything is with in walking distance.

Weekender Eastern Sierra- Snow Creek Golf Course

June 1st, 2011

There are few things in life more satisfying than being able to hit the ball 10% farther than you normally do.  The thinner air at 8000 foot elevation really helps you feel like a monster until the teenage girl you are playing with out drives you.

Weekender Eastern Sierra- Jolly Cone

June 1st, 2011

There is something really satisfying about a messy burger and a milkshake from a road side joint especially after a few hours on the river trying to conquer nature.

Weekender Eastern Sierra- Bridgeport Inn

June 1st, 2011

This hotel was built in 1877 and legend has it that Samuel Clemens once stayed here.  Legend also has it that the hotel is haunted by the “White Lady” who has been seen by guests over the years.  If ghost hunting is not for you maybe just try their prime rib, its delicious, then hit the road.

Weekender Eastern Sierra- East Walker River

June 1st, 2011

When you are ready to test your angling skills the East Walker is waiting.  Trophy trout are waiting for you but be aware, these fish get a lot of pressure so if your game is not tight all you will catch are some mosquito bites.

Weekender Eastern Sierra- Hiking

June 1st, 2011

There are a ton of trails to walk and peaks to conquer in the Eastern Sierra.  You have everything from one day hikes to trails that will have you packing supplies for a few days.

Weekender Eastern Sierra- Camping

June 1st, 2011

CAMPING

There is great camping all over the place up in the Eastern Sierras.  One area that is especially nice is Lundy Lake.  There are state camp sites that offer no amenities or you can stay at Lundy Lake Resort where you can shower and make doo doo in a regular bathroom.  Remember, it is not camping if hydraulics are involved.

Weekender Eastern Sierra- Latte Da

June 1st, 2011

No Starbucks in Lee Vining.  If you want something more than a brewed cup of joe hit up Latte Da in the El Mono Hotel and they will hook you up.  Just do not order a “grande” or you might get the screw face.

Weekender Eastern Sierra- Whoa Nellie Deli

June 1st, 2011

Ever eaten gourmet food at a gas station?  I guess it fits the Sierras perfectly to have a luxury at a service station.  The deli is in the Mobil station at the base of Tioga pass just outside of Lee Vining.  All the food is great, especially the lobster taquitos. To top it all off you can eat outside at picnic benches with an incredible view of Mono Lake.

Weekender Eastern Sierra- Hot Creek

June 1st, 2011

If you want a natural spa treatment head over to Hot Creek.  The Springs are just a quick drive off 395 behind the Mammoth Airport.  Watch out for topless Euro tourists, it is usually not as pretty as you would hope for.

Weekender Eastern Sierras- Nicely’s

June 1st, 2011

NICELY’S

Straight up diner food that is especially good for breakfast.  Make sure you have not washed your hair or shaved in three days because you do not want to stand out as a “flat lander”.

Weekender Eastern Sierras

June 1st, 2011

When you want a getaway that really gets you away, head up to the Eastern Sierras.  This “weekender” is best experienced by roughing it a bit. The Bridgeport to Mammoth area is packed full of fun stuff to do, cool things to see and great food to eat. So pack your camping equipment and s’more fixins and hit the road.

Weekender Chicago- Modern Wing of the Art Institute

June 1st, 2011

Designed by Renzo Piano this new addition to the Art Institute of Chicago holds its collection of 20th and 21st century art. If you feel like going to the touristy side of town its a cool building to check out, and maybe have an over priced drink on the roof (if you are trying to impress a lady friend) and check out a nice view of the city.

Weekender Chicago- Longman And Eagle

June 1st, 2011

A bar and restaurant modeled after the drinking and eating establishments of old world Chicago. Get your fill of local and seasonal ingredients that chef Jared Wentworth cooks up. A highlight on the menu this month include duck testicles served with English peas, bacon, romaine and pickled cherries. Also check out the great whiskey and bourbon selection with over 100 to choose from.

Weekender Chicago- West Loop

June 1st, 2011

Get your art on by hitting up quite a few galleries in a couple block radius. Check out a map ahead of time and plan a little tour. Start at Kavi Gupta and Andrew Rafacz and round the corner to check out Rhona Hoffman, cross the street and check out Western Exhibitions and Golden Age.

Weekender Chicago- Quimby’s

June 1st, 2011

Chicago’s classic book store for alternative comic books, zines, art books and odd magazines. Spend a few hours digging around and you are bound to find that handmade zine about cats or that bondage/fetish comic book you were always looking for.

Weekend Chicago- Hot Dougs

June 1st, 2011

Not much that can be said about the sausage superstore and encased meat emporium that hasn’t already been said on every travel or food show. But all I can say is believe the hype and check it out. The specials are great (Wild Rice and Asiago Cheese Bison Sausage with Roasted Yellow Pepper Mustard and Chimay Beer Cheese and Caribbean Goat Sausage with Spicy Prickly Pear Creme Fraiche, Roasted Plantains and Delice du Jura Cheese to name a few this week) but they also make a classic Chicago style dog like the best.

Weekender Chicago

June 1st, 2011

I love Chicago for it’s big city amenities and it Midwest, hometown feel.  Chicago has great cultural diversity and a laid back, family vibe that makes it quite unique.  The first things most people think of Chicago are Wrigley Field, Michigan Ave or Navy Pier.  Those are all great tourist spots but this weekender will focus on the less commercial side of the city.

Spring 11. The weekender.

March 6th, 2011

We all deserve a break but sometimes we just can not make it to Tahiti, Greece or Florence.  That is where the “weekender” comes in.  Treat yourself to a long weekend in  the hustle of a big city, cool breezes at the beach or tranquility of the mountains.  The spontaneous long weekend was the inspiration behind the SLVDR Spring 11 collection.  We offer designs that will allow you to throw a few key pieces into your Boston bag and get out.  No rolling “carry on” bags allowed. You do not want to look like one of those uptight business travelers- even though you may be one in real life.

Get out and enjoy.
